Day 33
2026-05-07
Goal: ~15 miles
Woke up and climbed a mountain. 2 miles up up up, amazing views from the top and a stop for breakfast. Followed by 2 miles down down down to the road.
Today is a road walking day - a section of trail is closed to restore the habitat of the mountain yellow-legged frog. Conveniently most of highway 2 is closed due to the fire/flooding/washed out portions of road - so when we walk we don’t need to be on high alert for incoming cars.
In total about 5.5 miles of road walking today. We stopped for water and had a parade of hikers road walking through.
We did walk through a road crew repairing a completely washed out portion of road - scary on these twisty turny high cliff sided mountain roads…
Eventually/finally back on trail!! Stopped and soaked our shirts as it’s pretty warm and full sun.
*Mile 400
Hiked with the sisters for a while. Filtered water and planned out end of day target - pushing ahead!
Bugs have been a pain in the butt today - little gnats and flys and bugs that like to dive bomb your face and go up your nose and ear and into your mouth… Wore my bug net for a bit today - no fun.
Helicopter and sirens of CA Fire crew blaring. Fire crew came through behind us on trail with EMT and stretcher - looking for an injured 60 year old woman - not sure if they found her - hope she’s ok (not a PCT hiker).
Many cute little lizards and stink bugs as usual on trail. Wild flowers as well bordering the trail.
Pushed on and found a beautiful camping space near a creek. Setup tents and ate dinner, filtered water and all the clean up chores - Devon isn’t feeling well (heat?! Or?!) so she went to bed early. 😥
Will read and relax before bed.
