Goal: 15 miles

Up, showered and packed - leftover calzone for breakfast.

Got a ride back to the trail from Dale.

The trail is beautiful and covered in frosty rainbows. Rambling hike up and down and around through pine trees with views intermittently on either side and wild flowers.

Trees change briefly to oak - crowding and creating a canopy on trail.

Walk down to cross CA Highway #2 - trail magic awaits. Coffee, watermelon and cookies!!

Now we climb - 93 switchbacks in total to the summit of Mt. baden-Powell @ 9407 ft. Elevation. Around ~8,000 feet snow intermittently crosses the trail - requiring extra attention so as not to slip.

Monument and flag at the summit - took pictures and ate lunch.

Starting the descent. Paule fell hard on a rock that kept rolling. He’s ok but will have a bruise!

To avoid snow we had to get off trail and scramble over scree and loose rock - very slow going. Eventually got back on trail!

Views in every direction - so beautiful 😍

BIG green rattle snake 🐍 on side of the trail - scared the crap out of me!

More snow on trail - Devon literally slid down on her butt at one point because she thought it seemed easier than stepping through the snow.

Ran into Patrice and he hiked with us for the rest of the day. Filled up on water @ Little Jimmy Spring.

Pushed 2 more miles through burned out areas, over tree trunks and across sketchy washed out areas of trail - as a result of rumors of trail magic (spaghetti) - but alas no magic was waiting.

Walked down a side road to a pullout and setup tents - group of 6 tents. Ate dinner and chatted, watched the sunset and get ready for bed. Happy Anniversary Devon & Paul 💘
