Day 34
2026-05-08
Goal: ~ 15 miles
Hiked out and along the creek and shortly thereafter started the day with a climb.
Beautiful pine covered Green hills and mountains in all directions. Pine scented air and crushed rock trails with pine needles strewn about - gorgeous 😍
The higher we go the more overgrown the trail seems to be. Lots of pushing through narrow pathways and scratchy bushes.
Fresh flowing water - filtered great! So many bees Paul had to flee (he’s allergic).
Met up with M & M and sat with them a bit over snacks/second breakfast.
Flowing trail cut out of the side of the mountains. In the distance the terrain changes to brown desert hills - it’s getting hotter as we drop in elevation.
Trees are now mostly gone, open and exposed terrain. Full sun, looking for a shady spot for lunch was a challenge. We ended up ON trail in the shade of a bush - blocking the trail - but an epic view.
Down down down trails bordered by wild flowers. More overgrown areas - pushed on thru.
Did a shirt soak in a bag today - extra water on hand and getting really hot - creative ingenuity!! Feels amazing when a slight breeze hits - like free AC.
Hiked down to the Fire station trail head and relaxed in the shade and filtered water, dropped trash & they even had bathrooms (pot toilets).
Soaked shirts again before our last hot sunny climb of they day - up up up another mountain to camp.
Watched cars rush about below on the busy roads. They look like toy cars from up here. 🚗 🚛 🚌
Camped with the sisters (Una & Cricket). Relaxed and ate dinner. Watched the sunset over the mountains.
