Day 37
2026-05-11
Goal: Stay cool 😎
Up early & packed - bag weight @ 41 pounds!
Road walk for ~ 2 miles out of Agua Dolce.
Climbed about 3,000+ feet today - up golden grassy hills spotted with wild flowers and views of surrounding valley and mountains.
VERY hot and sunny again today - not much shade to be found.
Ran into Kaleidescope again on trail - she’s slack packing. Met some new hikers today as well.
When we reached our first peak we walked through oak groves and shady paths. Found delicious water from a spring - shirt soaking as well to cool off a bit.
Dropped down to Bouquet Canyon, crossed the road to find an oasis of sorts… Shade, camp chairs, water jugs, charging bricks, other hikers.
We ate lunch and chatted - some left - we stayed and charged up our phones and bodies. Took a siesta for a few hours.
Filtered water and soaked shirts again before our afternoon climb up and over the next summit.
Can see the Bouquet Reservoir in the distance - looks like a dream.
Made it to our planned campsite - one of two spots was taken - we don’t have the energy to keep hiking for another spot (could be miles) so we crammed into the other VERY slanted spot - not great.
Cooked dinner on a slant - needed to keep a hand on my stove the entire time - it gets hot and I need to use my shirt as an oven mit… my oven mit slipped and I melted the sleeve of my shirt. Devon graciously finished cooking my meal for me. …one of many reasons I like to cold soak…
Hope I can get some sleep on a slant - I fear I may roll off my sleeping pad.
