Goal: Resupply pickup at Acton KOA

Woke and packed and climbed out of the valley. Surrounding mountains are all green and the trail is visible for miles. Ate a meat and cheese stick breakfast snack on the go.

From above we can see the KOA RV resort about 4.5 miles away - our first goal for the day to pickup resupply boxes.

Got to the KOA before they opened - met a wiener dog puppy named Alfred. The KOA did NOT have my box - unable to track as we don’t have the tracking numbers - status unknown. I will need to resupply in town at the Mexican Grocery store later this afternoon.

DEVON & Paul’s nephew and wife met us at the KOA and we drove into town for brunch at The Cowboy Tavern. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich (two layers of bread with ham and cheddar cheese and turkey and Swiss in-between and dipped in egg and cooked like french toast and sprinkled with powdered sugar) and fries. It was delicious and I am very full.

Drove up the road to the Serenity Oasis PCT hiker campground and set-up tents and dropped off gear.

Devon opted to stay and relax at the campground. Paul and I went back on the trail to hike the miles we were driven into town.

Dropped off at the parking lot - street crossing to creek crossing (shirt dunk day - it’s VERY HOT and no shade on this section - fully exposed sunny day!) ☀️ to railroad crossing.

Passed the monument marking the location that the PCT trail was finalized in 1993.

Hiked up and over hills covered with long yellow flowey grass and BIG random rock formations and speckling of wild flowers along the trail.

Hwy 14 looms below us in the distance - eventually we drop enough that it looks above us in the distance. Finally, we pass under the hwy through a large long tunnel. You can see all the way through - but it’s VERY dark in the middle and you can’t really see your feet or where you are stepping…

The sisters are at the other end - quite a surprise - taking a break and refuge from the sun and heat. We hiked the rest of the afternoon with them.

We hiked up to and through the Vasquez Rocks Natural area and park - the rock formations are beautiful and odd - created by the San Andreas Fault. Many movies have been filmed here some include: Planet of the Apes, Blazing Saddles, The Twilight Zone, Star Trek and more! An awesome experience to hike through the area.

Road walked the rest of the way into town. I stopped at the grocery store to resupply. I first got two cold drinks from the cooler and talked with Steven on the phone as I wandered aimlessly and somehow assembled food for the next few days.

Called my mom when finished and able to focus - Happy Mother’s Day Mom 💕

Met Paul & Devon & Una & Cricket at the Maria Bonita Mexican restaurant. Got a margarita and chili relleno - yum! Celebrated Una’s 18th Birthday 🎂 🎈🥳

Walked back to the campground in the dark and will attempt to get some sleep - it’s very hot and sweaty 🥵 still - the first night on trail I won’t need a sleeping bag!!

Can hear coyotes yipping while trying to fall asleep 😴
