Day 10
2026-04-14
Goal: ~ 15 + miles
Sooo cold - frost on tent - everything is wet (sleeping bag, tent, ground…)
On trail by 6:45 - cold delay - can’t feel my hands.
Climbed up with great views of green mountains and clouds stuck on top and in between. Terrain changed to big boulders covering the hills.
Paul is listening to an audio book about world war 2 and is retelling the book to us day by day - it’s a fun way to pass miles!
Hiked to water tanks at ‘Mike’s place’ - air-dried the wet tent and filtered and filled up water for the day - right before climbing up up up.
The climb was worth the view - can see the San Jacinto mountains (where we’ll be hiking next to Idyllwild) - they’re snow kissed and beautiful!
Zigged and zagged down and around the mountain, then up and down through washes and brush.
Second water is off trail down a steep hill - a natural spring is being collected in a tank and then piped to a fire hose spigot - filtered and filled up.
Last few miles of the day to find a great big wash for spaces out sandy camping.
Cooked dinner and cleaned up and in bed by 7:30 PM. Excited to start a new book tonight: The Gate of the Feral Gods - Matt Dinniman.
Coyotes yipping in the distance serenading us to sleep. 💤 💕
