Day 41
2026-05-15
Goal: Short day - hike to river
Wake up to a fine dusting of sand covering everything (inside the tent) - it was windy last night!
Packed up and hiked the final push of the aqua ducts.
Water source at a bridge - water is being pulled directly from the CA Aqua ducts! Many people camped here - some are still sleeping 😴 - they likely got in very late this morning.
From here we hike through a wind farm - many tall windmills - the wind has shown up in full force! Much stronger than the night before - pushing you forward.
As we hike the intensity of the wind is increasing - direction changes in the wind gusts make the hike more difficult and strenuous.
After a windy climb a canyon is visible with a creek flowing through the center. We hike down and find many other hikers relaxing and filtering water.
As it’s early in the day we relax a bit - soaking feet in the creek and talking with other hikers before setting up camp. As time goes by the wind is getting stronger and gusting directly through the canyon.
The search for a camping location with a wind block is futile. Making due with what’s available - fingers crossed that my tent can handle the wind.
Sooo much wind - so VERY intense!!! The sound is ominous and roaring from one side of the canyon to the other. My tent is getting thrashed - made the decision in the middle of the night to remove my fly - to allow the wind to pass through easier and create less drag.
Now I have a glorious view of the stars - even saw a shooting star! …wind is still crazy - didn’t get much sleep and covered in dust from the crazy strong wind!
