Goal: Hiking to malts and burgers at Lake Morena

Poor sleep - up early before 5 AM
Bathroom break and reading in the tent until 5:30 AM
Packup and hike a few miles before breakfast.
Rolling rocky hills - found a HUGE boulder for breakfast of tofu scramble.

Overcast and cloudy all morning - crisp and beautiful.
Up a bit with rolling hills covered in boulders and wild flowers along the trail.
Met a few people on trail.

Stopped for lunch and a bit of rain came down while we ate lunch. Rain stopped as we started hiking.
Hit a road walk and trail magic of a big water cache at mile 10. Filled up just as a ranger pulled up for a PCT permit check and CA fire permit check.

Sun has come out in full force - getting hot.
Road walk and connect back to trail down into ravine before a large incline up up up to get over the mountain. Stopped half way up to drench shirts in water for a cool down and more up up up.

Lake Morena visible in the distance.
More up followed by a nice steady down into Morena Village.

Trail magic at trailhead - hikers from the prior year came back to give back to the trail - cooler of cold beverages - I had a Watermelon High Noon. 🍉

Walked into town to the Malt shop - many hikers assembled on the patio. Ate a bacon mushroom Swiss burger, fries, Arnold Palmer & salted caramel malt with whip cream. So full!

Walked back to trail and got water before one last 2 mile push to setup camp. Ground is Bouldery and finding a spot was difficult to setup - on a bit of a slant 🫤

Very tired - will read in tent and likely fall asleep early.
Slept so good last night - so very quiet. 😴
